Sounds like you have the famous 3 Red lights of death. Its a well known, highly publicized problem with the 360. I remember when the issue was discovered one service center received 2500 xbox in a single week with this issue.

This is very common on older, 1st generation Xbox 360s. It has to do with the console not being properly cooled. In all computers, excess Heat damages the motherboard, thats why cooling is so important. Its a design flaw with the Xbox. Newer 360s have had the heat sink redesigned (MS installed a much much larger one). Unfortunately their isnt much you can do but take to an Xbox Service center for repair.

The problem is well known, they should be able to fix it. MS extended the warranty on Xboxs due to this issue.

Just tell MS you are suffering the 3 Red lights of death problem (as its known on net) and ask the the directions to the closest repair center. This repair is covered by the warranty.
