I have built every PC I have ever owned with the exception of my current one, I think building your own is a great idea if you have the time to pick the parts, build, troubleshoot and fine tune it, if you don't then its much easier if you can give someone the list of parts you want and have them build it for you.

The company I went with had the advantage of being local (so I could go in and pick the parts off the shelf) and took 48 hours to build and deliver it which included 24 hours test and tuning time. It has run flawlessly.
