I've built my own computers for the last 8-10 years now, and I would never consider to buy a pre-built PC again..

So, If you build your own PC, then all your parts have an individual warranty. You can grab a hard drive with a 3 or 5 year warranty. Find a mobo with a longer warranty. Also, there are some video cards out there with a limited lifetime warranty.
That's also one of the things I say when I try to convince friends to build their own PCs, even if it almost always means that I have to build it for them..
