Not exactly. They reorganized the game a year after launch so that would compete against WOW. They did this by changing the combat system so that it was more simplified, and allowing Newbies to create Jedi characters.

This angered the community as getting a Jedi unlock was quite a time consuming affair and most people didn't like the simple combat system.
This result was that no new people joined, and many of the old members left in disgust to play something else.

The fact remains that there is still a niche market for Hardcore MMORPG gamers. Not everybody wants the next WOW clone.

I thought WOW was too childish and quit after a few months.
