Post - Alienware

Does anyone own an Alienware computer system? I heard it is a pretty good system for gaming and graphics in general. It looks pretty sweet too. Do they make notebooks too?

I have a co-worker that has one and for a while he had nothing but problems, tech support sucks, and overall after his experience with a $5000 dollar computer he was not happy. He will be building them again from now on.

Since Dell has bought Alienware they have gone the way of other corporate machines, garbage. However I am only speaking of their desktops and no nothing about their laptops.

Yea I thought Alienware pcs were great for gaming and their tech support was the best and also they have lifetime guarantees, I think thats why they cost so much. They could of changed their polocies or owners I dunno I dont own one myself, but that used to be their reputation.

Dell bought them and they have since gone down the tubes because they are now a entity of a large corporation.

You are better off building your own gaming machine and saving a few grand...

However laptops are a different story...

Hi!

Although I could never hope to afford one, I was infatuated with Alienware laptops way back and did some searching. I came across this article from where their hardware came from. But since they were already bought by Dell, things may have changed...

All I know is that they look cool, They look something an Alien would make, hence AlienWare. If I had a couple million bucks to spare I may buy one. :P

Nothing to write Home about.

The only impressive thing about them is the cost. A $5100 Desktop System? Gimme a break! Thats a rip-off. I could you build you something as fast and cheaper. Lots of the parts they use are based on experimental technologies. For example blu-ray, a $400 drive. The HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray wars are not over, why sink 4 c-notes in a tech that might follow in the steps of the minidisc and Betamax. Thats just a waste.

People assume "the most expensive" is always "the best", it isn't. Nor is it the smartest. Its like buying a Ferreri, Who cares if it goes 180mph? you still are only going to drive 65. Its better to get an Audi S7.

If you want a gamers laptop then its worth considering, However I have read that Asus as some killer gamer laptops, which are mostly likely cheaper.
