Post - Alternate/forwarded domains

I have a whole bunch of relevant domains forwarded to a single site. Is there a reason I shouldn't do this...? It's improved my traffic significantly, but I can't tell in what way it has affected (if at all) my search engine positions. I do pretty well with Google; #21 on my most relevant keyword... what's the thinking on multiple domains pointing to a single site? Good? Bad? In what way, and if 'bad', what should I do differently?

Apologies if this sounds vague; I'll give more details if anyone's interested in tossing this subject around.

Thanks!

If you use 301 (permanent) redirects then you should be ok, but 302 (temporary) redirects can potentialy be very bad for you..

I've posted a bit about the dangers of 302 redirects here:

But there's no SEO benefits of having multiple domains pointed towards a site, as far as I know...

Thanks for the info, Hal. Gosh, I remember being advised to buy up alt domains years ago when I was in a different niche; now except for branding and typo traffic it's kinda a big 'who cares'.

Now, I must say that I DID have some problems with folks coming in on the alt domains and having trouble logging in to my IPBoard. I am told this is on the part of their server (I host with them, too) and not necessarily a specific issue with the domain forwarding...

Hm, that sounds a bit strange.
If it's a proper redirect there shouldn't be any login problems at all by being redirected from another domain, and I can't see that the server should cause any problems there at all either??
Do you know what may have caused it (the problems on the server)??
And what kind of domain forwarding/redirect did/do you use?
