Topic What anti virus program is the best?

I have been using norton antivirus and i am displeased with the results, it is constantly missing virus it should be picking up. I just downloaded a copy of Kaspersky trial and everytime it picks up something it makes this loud scream noise. Is that normal? What anti virus program you would advise me?

Bitdefender 2008 is the best, but AVAST is very good and its free.

Best is NOD32 as of tests that's been going on since 1998, very small footprint and use very little memory

I use AVG. It is a good anti virus software. The new version 8 even scan root kit and all. Another anti-virus is ZoneAlarm. That is good as well.

Norton and McAfee are huge software and basically makes the PC run slow.

I have recently changed from Norton to Kaspersky an I'm very pleased with it. Windows now starts in half the time. Norton was forever having small problems e.g the real time scanner would not load on boot, and it would require online updating and a reboot every few days.

I finally got sick of it and decided to try something new.

Norton never worked for me either. Right now I don't have an anti-virus software installed which is very bad, I know. But I do use Lavasoft's Ad-aware to get rid of malware and other bad things you can get from the internet. It works pretty well and it's free.
