Post - ASUS EEE PC701 for $400

Anybody see this? The New Asus eee. Its a full laptop with a 7" screen (comes with either Linux or XP). The specs are that great and it has no CD player (can be added via USB) but for $400 its a interesting deal, particularly to those on a lean budget or what something ultra portable. The LINUX version is designed for non IT gurus so anybody can use it.

It was released in Taiwan over the summer and just went on sale in the USA, where it is selling like hotcakes. It comes out in Europe end of November it will sell for 300 Euros. There is also a 10"screen version for $100 more.

My company is thinking giving them away as a promotional gift to our clients.

Got a Wiki for anybody interested.

You can find it any any online dealer such as Newegg.

Personally its not for me, but for a non-nerd, somebody wanting the smallest PC available or those on a budget its perfect. I would stay away from the larger version because for almost the same price you can get a full blown laptop.

UPDATE

Just saw this, Apparently ASUS is so pleased with the Asus EEE they are planning a desktop version in 2008 for $200.

Not yet, it isn't out until end of month in France. If my company decides to offer it on promo I might be able to snag one.

There are selling like hotcakes in the states though, they are even beginning to have a inventory problem.

One thing thats good is that it uses a modified version of Xandros which is very easy to use even for the most hopeless of people. Lots of big buttons, big labels etc.
