Post - bbProtection

I have recently started to use this phpBB2 mod that helps in the stop of SPAM...

If any of you have a phpBB bored you know that in the past few SPAMMERS have been out of control and exploited a flaw in the phpBB script. This has become the most annoying thing EVER....

Well this seems to be working and if anything it makes it really easy to clean up the spam now....

have a look

You can see it in action over at http://www.freelancekillers.com/boards
(it really isn't much to look at...lol)

Haven't used phpBB in a while so I didn't have a big problem with auto-registrations by spammers then.
But that site/system looks interesting.

Any experience with it so far?
Does it check every post, or can you can you configure it to just check registrations?
Seems a bit "dangerous" to depend on an outside source to check posts, especially on high-traffic boards.

There are a few other anti-spam hacks/mods for phpBB out there.
Have you trid any of those??

So far it has been working great and stopping all spam. You can select it to either check both registrations and posts or just registrations. It has a built in cache feature if for some reason the server is not able to be accessed so the posts will be made. One thing I do like is if the spam gets through it makes it much easier to clean up. As for the post verification I don't believe it takes the entire post but just the user info to verify against a list to see if the user name and or IP is on a blacklist.

I haven't really tried any of the other ones because they involved a lot of time, this takes about 20mins.

I think this will be rendered obsolete when phpBB3 gets released, which it seems RC1 is just around the corner. I personally would like to get vB but at this time I can not justify the cost, however that may change with a project I want to get off the ground.
