I think mine would have to be the computer, because you can do anything on it including what other gadgets can do like watch movies and listen to music.
The best electronic (component) ever invented IMO is the transistor..
Without it we wouldn't have any computers at all.
It's basically the foundation of all of the "modern electronic wonders" we have today.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transistor
Yes, agree with both HAL and Hoggie that PC is the single most important invention. Without it, we wouldn't be doing what we currently doing, like typing.

Actually, there would be computers, there ware computers before the Transistor but they ware crappy and the elektronrören (what ever they are called in english ) always broke and they ware big and slow!
But I agree, the Transistor is the best electronic component.
The transistor would be a very high up piece of hardware, but then again (i know its not exactly a component) but you could argue the Telephone. Without it we wouldn't have the internet, cell phone communications etc.
Ahh, the walk man, it set the way to smaller and powerful means of entertainment, thanks to it, now we have portable dvd players, and all other portable junk that we barely end up using. So, walk man all the way!!!
How can you not say the TV!? Without that we wouldn't have all the cool stuff that we have! i mean think about it... TMNT, Gi Joe, Transformers, Beavis and Butthead, Monty Python, TiVo!!!!!!!!! Beta, VHS, Blu Ray, HD DVD... Hi Def, Plasma, Flatscreen, LCD, Projector... The TV has to be up there somewhere!
