After hinting at new Diablos and Starcrafts, Itzik Ben Bassat says his company's next MMO game will be more "innovative" than its current cash cow; WOW movie still in development.
Last week, Blizzard Entertainment vice president of development Itzik Ben Bassat dropped something of a verbal bombshell. At the London launch event for the World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, the executive appeared to say the next installments in two of his company's storied series might not be far off.
"We'd like to say to our fans of Diablo and Starcraft that we haven't forgotten we have these franchises," he said. "We cannot wait to be here in a few years, or however long it will be. It won't be a decade, and we'll be celebrating the launch of [the next] Starcraft together."
I spent a "few" hours playing Diablo 2 when it was released in 2000 (Didn't have a child then.. ), so I wouldn't mind seeing a release of Diablo 3 soon, even if I don't have nearly as much time to play computer games now...
The developers of Diablo I and II have long since left Blizzard. However, Chief designer Bill Roper and a few of his staff have been working on the game HELLGATE: London which is supposed to be the spiritual successor. Comes out in June.
As for a new WOW. My problem with WOW is that its not mature enough for me. I like hardcore AD+D rules. It bugs me to see a 5 level rogue beat a 5 level warrior. Rogues are supposed to be scouts, and support, not tanks.
