Topic counter strike problem

Hi evryone hopefully you can help me with my CS problem. When I start CS the menu screen pops up but the words for the menus are not legible. And when I try to access the console or any of the menus there are no words just random letters and numbers where text or displays would be. Also, when I am in game I cannot read chat or see other players names or even the game scores. I tried messing with "-autoconfig" but it did not help. I can't check to see what my settings are for the game because the menus and words are not legible. I received one error message about steam and it basically said I had a registry error in HL. Sorry but I do not know what is wrong. Can anybody help fix this?

I am running the game on a fairly new pc (8 month old PC).

Compaq Presario SR5030NX desktop
Pentium4 641 3.20Ghz
Intel GMA 950 video/graphics card
1 GB DDR2 RAM
160 GB HDD
Windows Vista Home Basic

It may be corrupt files, try reloading cs and update all your drivers.Make sure your running the game as administrator as well.
