Post - Dedicated IP Advantages/Disadvantages ??

Besides you being the only one on the IP and having the benifts of not getting punished for someone else on a shared IP what else could be a justification of getting one...

I'm considering getting dedicated IPs so I don't have to worry about being punished in SEOs or SPAM databases for anyone that may have caused trouble on a shared IP.

Also how hard is it to prove that you are new to an IP if you get one that was used previously by a spammer?

As usual I will be eagerly awaiting your responses

One of the advantages is just as you say; you don't have to be punished for something someone else is doing on that IP..

You can check if an IP is listed in spam databases using this tool:
http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/ip4r.ch?ip=
You can also find links there to how you can get you IP delisted if it's already marked as spam.

Other advantages are that you can have your own SSL certificate and be able to use anonymous FTP.
And if you have several sites, and manage to get different class C IPs then you may have some advantages if you interlink those sites since SEs checks IPs and may disregard/don't pay much attention to links coming from the same Class C IPs.

Other than that I'm not aware of many advantages of having a dedicated IP...

I usually only give someone a dedicated IP if they really need it. For example you need a dedicated IP address if you are planning on adding on SSL. But you cannot justify SEO to ARIN for more IPs.

Well, the main reason I believe you need a dedicated IP is if you have a network of sites.

Interlinking between them will be nearly useless for SEO if they are on the same IP, but can be powerful if they are on different IPs.
