Post - Fed up of Fantasy MMORPG

Is it just me? but I am so sick of the fantasy adventuring motif in MMORPG. Think about it. WOW, Guild Wars, Everquest I+II, Ultima Online, Dark Age of Camelot, Dungeons and Dragons Online, plus factor in Vanguard, Conan, LOTR MMORPG, Warhammer Online and a few other that will be released in 2007.

To many knowledge there are only City of Heroes/Villians, EVE Online, Auto Assault, SW Galaxies already out with Pirates of the Burning Sea and Star Trek coming out later. Many of those released are rubbish.

Like games based on WWII, Its just been done to death, unless its truly exceptional, its now Boring.

Cannot developers find a more original motif? The only only ones I find exciting are DDO (I like DnD, thats the only reason) Warhammer (because its not a adventuring MMORPG but one based on military campaigns. You are a soldier on the frontlines for the armies of Good or Evil) and Pirates (because I like 18th century naval stories).

Why not use Star Wars (Everybody says Galaxies is garbage), Warhammer 40000, the Mechwarrior universe.

End rant.

Any thoughts?

I never have been a big fan of MMORPGs...Just something about spending 50 bucks then another 15 or so a month...

Plus they never really intrigued me much, don't get me wrong I'm very much into sci-fi and fantasy things (like books and movies) but not so much MMORPGs...I think if they came up with a FPS MMORPG like with bases and what not and you could be put on call...it could be cool...

Some dev forum I was on someone was talking about this I'll see if I can find it...

Crap, imagine being on-call for a video game...hahahaha now that is uber geek

I'm not a huge fan of MMORPGs myself, but I must admit that I played WOW a while ago..
But I grew tired of it pretty fast, so I deleted the entire game when I reached level 47.
You just had to repeat the same things over and over again and it was getting boring fast..
(kill things - earn gold - increase in level - buy more fancy stuff so you can kill more things - repeat.....)

The only MMORPG I'm looking forward to now is Age of Conan, since it's developed by a Norwegian company, I'm also a fan of the Conan "universe" and I read the magazines frequently..

Fantasy games have not been my cup of tea since the Bards Tale series on the C=64 many many years ago

I´ve never really been into the MMORPG scene, simply because I need to be able to press pause or quit whenever I want... I have a few friends who game WoW, and when they´re on raid, they spend a few hours preparing, several hours raiding, and THEN a few hours afterwards....

HOW DO THEY FIND THE TIME??

My god....

Would game warhammer 40k though

nuff said.

Well thats the nice thing about WOW. You can do a 10 or 20 minute quest. RAIDS do take considerable longer however but you are not forced to join them.

i'm not a big fan of the whole fantasy MMORPG's, although i do admit i still play Diablo II when i'm extremely bored. the whole genre has just been over done, no one has come out with anything original (except the starwars galaxies). and mmarsh, not only have i seen guys lose girlfriends over these games, i've seen them flunk out of college.

Yeah I got a few friends that had been asked to take a semester off...Much in part to UO although on was cuz of a warez site he was running out of his dorm room....They get pissed when you have a 1000 users connected to your computer and it's sucking up the college bandwidth...lol...He even ran a cable down the hall to another room cuz they shut off is port...He didn't get busted though cuz he did have all the original boxes to all said software...well enough for them to not bother looking any closer....Computer Engineering majors are silly....
