Post - The Lord of the Rings Online - Shadows of Angmar Beta Testing!

I've just been "lucky" enough get access to the beta test of The Lord of the Rings Online Shadows of Angmar now, and so far it's looking really good.
http://lotro.turbine.com/

I'm a pretty huge Tolkien and Lord of the Rings fan, so I've been looking forward to trying this one.

I did played World of Warcraft a bit a while ago, but got tired of it when I reached level 47, so hopefully this will be a bit better than that one...

It does look very much like WoW in the beginning, with the similar "kill 6 beasts" "bring 4 pelts" etc. kind of quests, but the graphics and gameplay/storyline seems to be a bit better.
I haven't reached more than level 4 on my Elf Guardian on LoTRO yet, so I don't have much input, but I'll keep you informed on the progress (when I have some more time to test it...)

I'll also try to post a few screenshots here later,
but you can look at the ones on the official site for now..

Thanks for posting the links for this game. My husband loved the one for the PS2. Matter of fact he is still playing that one from time to time.

I think I might give this one a pass.

The reasons are thats its too similar to WOW. Now WOW is a great game no doubt, but its uses a very basic RPG ruleset. I am an old RPG hand and I like much more meat on my games. Based on the reviews (which are good), LOTRO doesnt try to offer any more in depth gameplay. Combat for example is exactly the same as WOW. I want to be to control more the flow of combat, pick my own attacks rather than just click on a target.

I am thinking DDO.

Anyone playing this one now?
I haven' bought the game (yet), just tested the beta a bit.
You're quite right mmarsh, it's similar to WOW but I think the graphics, controls and the storyline is a bit better so I may end up buying it later (unless something better gets released soon)...
And it really helps to play in the Tolkien "universe" as well...

I think my husband would like to try this out, but hasn't convinced me that it's something we should spend the money on.

Dang, I've been stupid enough to buy this one now...

It's a really good game, much better than World of Warcraft (in my opinion), and the graphics is very good as well...

Haven't tested the Monster Play system yet, but that one looks like a very nice addition

I don't have much time to play, so it'll probably take a year+ to reach high levels..

The music system is quite "interesting"..

Here's a couple of "music videos" I've found on youtube.
They're played using the keyboard...

Hotel California - LOTRO Style

LOTRO - Highway to Hell
