Post - Microsoft's Live OneCare security software fails second virus test...

Quote:
Microsoft's Live OneCare security software has failed tests which check how well it spots and stops malicious programs designed to attack Windows.

OneCare was the only failure among 17 anti-virus programs tested by the AV Comparatives organisation.
Microsoft's software only spotted 82.4% of the 500,000 viruses that the independent group subjected it to. The test is the second in less than a month that Microsoft's anti-virus software has failed.

Hm, that wasn't very impressive by MS...
They'll hopefully take this seriously, and come up with a better product soon.

The test itself is also quite interesting, and the following anti-virus products were tested:
Avast! Professional Edition 4.7
AVG Anti-Malware 7.5
AVIRA AntiVir Personal Edition Premium 7.03
BitDefender Professional Plus 10
Dr.Web for Windows 95-XP 4.33.2
eScan Anti-Virus 8.0
ESET NOD32 Anti-Virus 2.70.23
Fortinet FortiClient 3.0
F-Prot for Windows 6.0.5.1
F-Secure Anti-Virus 7.01
G DATA AntiVirusKit (AVK) 17.0
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0.2
McAfee VirusScan 11.1
Microsoft OneCare 1.5
Norman Virus Control 5.82
Symantec Norton Anti-Virus 14.0
TrustPort Antivirus Workstation 2.5

I personally use AVG 7.5 and it seems to be working great in the past I have used Norton (now I like to refer to as System Never Works), PC-cillin, NOD 32 (which is damn good but also very expensive) and, Mcafee.

I would say AVG free is probably your best bang for no buck

I also have been using AVG spyware removal tool and must say it is most excellent.
