I'm using OpenOffice in both XP (laptop) and Ubuntu (PC). Surprisingly, oOo seems to run without hitch and issues in XP. I don't also notice a difference in performance compared to MSword 2003. However, oOo spell checker doesn't work in Ubuntu feisty. But there's a fix in the Ubuntu forums.
