Post - Problem with Dell Dimension 4550

Hi,

I opened up my comp to blow the dust out with compressed air can. It worked before I did this. Now it comes on for a 30 second period of time and shuts itself off. I have looked at troubleshooter on dell site. Did not help. Can anyone help?

Thank You

did you accidentally freeze something? you can do that with the air, and it'll mess up your computer big time.

Check the fans, both the CPU and system fans. Are they spinning? The BIOS will shut down the computer if the fans are not detected.

The fans sounds like a good idea to check..
It's also possible that you may accidentally have disconnected the power to one of the fans so you should also check all the connectors there.

The fans operate. It seems they run kind of slow though. I look for connecters that may have been disconnected and even reseated the main power connecter. Still no luck.

If they run slow then there might be something stuck in them...
Check for dust balls etc. in there, or get new ones.
Slow fans may/will cause the components/CPU to overheat and the PC will shut itself down so that seems to be the problem

You should check the BIOS to see what RPM the are spinning at. If the are below the threshold the PC will shutdown.

I did the same to my old laptop and the power supply unit kicked the bucket...

My software never has bugs. It just develops random features.
