Topic PS 2 games not running on PS 3

I have lots of ps2 games. I want to buy PS 3 but I heard that someone is saying that the ps2 games can’t be played on ps 3. .

Could this be true?

On the "lite" version (I believe the 40GB version) it's not possible to play PS2 games, but it shouldn't be a problem on the full version (60GB and above)
