Post - SD Cards

I have a few SD cards that I use in my camera, MP3 player and computers. I've noticed that the price is coming down pretty nicely on them.

I think they may be less popular than USB drives now. Do you think that they'll still be made for a few years?

Lots of new gadgets, cameras, GPS etc. are still using SD memory cards, so I don't think they'll be removed from the shelves in the next few years..

Yes, agree with Hal and Alex that unless products such as camera, PDA starting to drop the use of SD card slot, I cannot see why SD card would give way to others.

At least it wouldn't be compare to memory stick.

I picked up a Kingston 4gb SDHC the other day for just £16, I seem to remember not long ago that a 512mb SD card would cost about £30 a go. Seems that most memory formats are coming down in price though, especially recently.

Micro SD cards might be poised to start replacing them pretty soon. Micro cards function as regular cards (most come with the cheap adapter), are comparably priced, and are wildly tiny. It doesn't make SD card items obsolete, with that adapter, so it seems like it would be profitable to produce those more.

I have a 1GB SD card for my digital camera. I guess they're still the in thing for electronic data storage unless they come up with something even tinier. But, yup, they're still be around for years.

my camera has xD, and everything else that I use runs on USB.

They continued to make Floppy Disks long after they were obsolete (they still sell them today) so I canno see the SD card going anywhere.

Yes, fortunately they are getting cheaper and cheaper but I don't think there will another USB device that will replace SD cards, they might upgrade them or make them smaller, but not replace. These companies are making a bundle of money out of these SD cards and I don't see how they will replace them.
