Topic shutdown problem

im running windows xp home edition....a week ago when i try to turn off my computer laptop i can not shutdown my computer....i can only standby my laptop...or let the damn thing die...but i can not turn the computer off by the windows tab and shutdown...or ctrl alt del and the under the shutdown down down menu when i choose turn off it still will not shut down...would appreciate any help

What kind of laptop do you have?
I've experienced something similar a while ago on my laptop, and it turned out that it was hardware related so I had to send it to service...

got a DELL INSPIRON B130

I've searched a bit on the net now and it looks like there's a few more with the same problems as you, like this guy:

Can't find any explanation on what causes it so it's probably best to contact DELL support and ask there..

My old Compaq Presario did something similar. I had a repair guy out for another problem, and he blamed it on Windows. It would get to the screen where it says, "Your Computer is Shutting Down," and then it wouldn't go any further. He told me to just shut it off at the CPU when that happened, so that's what I did for the remaining years I used that computer.
