Post - Sometimes Computer companies are soo Dumb...

Sometimes the level of stupidity in the computer field is really is surprising. Even someone who works in the field.

I just got a new Motherboard with 2 new HDs. I wanted to create a RAID 0 to boost disk performance. So I install everyting the MB, CPU, RAM, DISKS, no problem. I overclock to a reason 3.1 Ghz easily enough. I configure the BIOS to enable RAID on ports 0 and 1.

So, I am ready to install the OS.

So I get to the WinXP setup and I am told that Windows cannot detect the HDs. No problem I'll just get the RAID driver Diskette that should be with the motherboard (as it was before). And away we go right?

No diskette! Where is the damn RAID Driver? I discover its on the CD. In fact you have to make it yourself, AFTER windows is installed.

Is the CD bootable? Nope.

Is the RAID driver on the manufacturers website? Silly Human! Of course not.

The only way I can install my RAID is to disable the RAID in the BIOS install WinXP once using regular SATA, make the RAID driver diskette from the Utility thats on the chipset CD. Then re-enable RAID on the BIOS, run the install again and use the Disk I made.

Result: Several Hours wasted and all because ASUS wouldn't thrown in a 20-cent driver diskette.

What fun is....

Seriously you think they would make the CD bootable at least....

I bet if you called tech support they would have asked you if the power cable was plugged in....I love when they do that....

Its even better...

Turns out the CD was bootable. They just didn't say so in the instructions. I read the whole thing front to back no where does it say it. Its when I accident left the CD in the PC on a reboot that I realized it.

More wasted time, and now the stupid floppy drive wont work.

Ever tried to install Win2K on a clean system without the system setup disks? I still remember that time I drove 100 kilometers to a friends house in pitch darkness, icy roads and -22 C just to pick up five 3.5" disks and return to the office late at night to find one of the disks not working...
