Post - Sony Pictures are going to make the Metal Gear Solid movie

The Metal Gear games were (and some still are) pretty good, but I wonder if this will just turn out as another "turkey" as many of the other games-to-movie conversions have done in the past...

Quote:
At the Electronic Entertainment Expo last year, Konami revealed that work had begun on a live-action movie based on Metal Gear Solid. The news broke via a pamphlet for Studio Kojima, the Konami-owned development house headed up by Metal Gear series creator Hideo Kojima.

"I have received many offers to adapt Metal Gear Solid. It has taken a long time, but we have finally settled on an arrangement," Kojima said in a statement. "False facts aside, a movie project is underway. I have finalized a Class-A contract with a party in Hollywood."

For eight months, the identity of the aforementioned "party" was unknown. That changed this week, when Sony Pictures Entertainment vice chairman Yair Landau revealed his studio is developing the project.

"We're working with the Metal Gear guys," Landau told GameSpot following his D.I.C.E. summit keynote address in Las Vegas. "It's a very cinematic game, it really lends itself to movie telling. But the question is, 'How do you translate Snake's experience into a full arc that conforms to what audiences expect on the large screen?'"

i'm somewhat curious to see what this movie turns out to be, because if you think about it, metal gear solid III had about two hours of cinematics alone. i think hollywood might have a shot and doing something good here.

Any more updates on this? It should be successful once it is written properly as I thoroughly enjoyed Metal Gear Solid 2 on my Xbox...we'll see how it goes.

I don't know why but I just don't see this movie as being really very good. I guess because I just have a hard time seeing a movie concept from a game.

I'd say that it's a fairly new phenomenon for games to cross over to movies, but it's been happening for awhile.

I liked the movie Silent Hill, although I haven't played the game. As they hire film crews, actors, composers and musicians for audio and visual components of games, the line between the two is starting to blur from a production point of view.

The metal gear series is already a movie more or less...I think if done right it will be another great, kind of like a Bond type...

Splinter Cell would probably make a good movie too

Its a tough time when it reaches the people of Hollywood. These metal gear series are really a wonderful event and it has some excellent cinematic and modifications. These can really turn in to an another turkey.
