A year or so ago a friend of mine bought a Firebox system for his desktop, and the salesguy mentioned he had one for his laptop.

I'm not sure if it's the same unit, but my friend's came with a card which interfaced to an external box for inputs, speaker outs and MIDI interface.

It also came with Cubase SE which is a powerful audio and MIDI recording and editing software.

Maybe that's more than you were looking for?

As far as I know, you can't change a soundcard on a laptop. Of course, I'm not a computer guru or anything, but that's what my local guru told me.

There are soundcards that simply attaches to the available slots in laptops. Like the one above, which goes into the PCMCIA slot. There are also ones that connects to USB ports. I never had experience with Sound Blaster products for Laptops but they work fine in desktops.
