At the 2007 Blizzard Worldwide Invitational event in Seoul, South Korea, Blizard Entertainment today confirmed the development of Starcraft 2, the sequel to the one of the most popular RTS games ever released. StarCraft II will feature the return of the Protoss, Terran, and Zerg races, overhauled and re-imagined with Blizzard's signature approach to game balance. Each race will be further distinguished from the others, with several new units and new gameplay mechanics, as well as new abilities for some of the classic StarCraft units that will be making a reappearance in the game. StarCraft II will also feature a custom 3D-graphics engine with realistic physics and the ability to render several large, highly detailed units and massive armies on-screen simultaneously. StarCraft II will include a unique single-player campaign, as well as fast-paced online play through an upgraded version of Blizzard's Battle.net. In addition, the game will come with a powerful, full-featured map editor that will put the same tools used by Blizzard's designers into the hands of players.
Spiffy. I never got to play the original myself, but I just showed a screenshot from the website to my husband and he bogarted the laptop for half an hour. I take that to be a good sign.
I know I going to commit sacrilege, but I never understood the Starcraft craze. I always though it was simply a Warcraft II clone: aka Orcs in Space.
Aside from its sci-fi setting and story the game play wasn't really original. I thought games like Total Annaliation and W40K: Dawn of War were much more revolutionary.

What?? We have an infidel in here??
It's (of course) a bit similar to Warcraft since they're both made by Blizzard, but I really like both games since the gameplay and story isn't that much alike anyway.
I personally find the Starcraft storyline, including the expansion, better and more interesting than Warcraft, but that's just my opinion..
