Post - Swedish Armed Forces moves from Windows to Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Nice one for the open source community!
It's good to the that governments gets their eyes up and sees that there are other (better?) alternatives than Windows out there...

Quote:
STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Red Hat (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that the Swedish Armed Forces has made the decision to migrate its servers from Windows NT to Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Following the deal, the Swedish Armed Forces will start replacing Windows NT with Red Hat Enterprise Linux across its core IT infrastructure.
.....
The decision to migrate to Red Hat was primarily based on its advanced security features, but additionally the strong support, ease of migration and compatibility with existing in-house software were important factors.

Not surprising with the cost of Server 2003 from MS being off the charts...

I am willing to bet though they will still have some MS systems kicking around...I also bet they have some custom made OS for themselves...

I wonder how the US military operates with its computers, I know they use a lot of python (scripting language) from what I have read...

Good thing they are switching, it's about damn time! Windows NT is as outdated as it comes in my opinion.
