Topic USB connecting problem

Guys 'n' Gals,

A month or so ago I tried to plug my USB pen into my PC (XP SP2) to download some photos. The Usb pen said it was being charged but the PC seems to have no inkling that it's connected. I can't force it to pick it up when it can't see anything there at all. I've not been able to connect it to the PC since.

Can anyone suggest what might (not) be happening?

Does it work elsewhere?

I recently bought a "Cheap" 4Gb memory stick at our local Post Office, and it works on my two computers and not on some others, even though they all have Win XP installed. Just as an after thought I asked the Post Office manager if he would try it in his computer and it was OK so he went and tried it on the Office computer and it would not even see it. He asked if I wanted a replacement, but bearing in mind the small cost I said that I would use it

I'm still scratching my head (and getting splinters).

I think maybe the XP system is not convenient,maybe I should install the vista system and see wheather the USB pen can work on it or not!

It's possible that it's been bent a bit when it's been plugged in and one of the connectors may be broken..
That happened to one of my old USB disks a while ago.

Does it work on other systems/computers??
