Post - Wireless Router

I have been looking online for info on wireless routers. It appears the D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme and the Linksys WRT-160N is quite good. I am preferring D-Link because of its range and capabilities to include printers in the network.

Anyone out there have any hand on experience with this unit? I will be recommending this to a friend to whom I helped with their purchasing of laptop which has an N card built in. The laptop is HP 9000 series with an Intel core Duo 2.0 chip and 800 mhz front side bus.

What do you need the router for?
Both of those looks pretty good and both D-Link and Linksys are very good wireless brands, but depending on the price they may seem to be a bit "overkill" for a simple home network (unless you have a big house)

If you want extreme functionality get a linksys WRT54G and flash it with dd-wrt firmware. You'll get all your functionality plus itll be a conversation starter!

I set up a few wireless networks with D-LINK. They are pretty good. They are abit more advanced than the Netgears so its slightly more tricker to set them up. Personally I don't like they way they set up the Administrator console, but its not a deal-breaker. They have better range than Netgear G6xx+8xx series but are more expensive too.

The biggest weakness is the documentation, which is CRAP and totally insufficient. I got my Grandma a DSL-605 (modem+router) I was setting up the WSA-PSK but unlike most other routers I use, setting changes for security are not retroactive, plus I was getting an odd error message relating to having 2 SSID (which I didn't have).

In fact, the setting changes had to be finalized in a separate area of the console (which wasn't that easy to find) and the error message I was getting was normal. But NOWHERE was either of this mentioned in the documentation. It was unbelievable, I had to call the help desk to get an answer. Once that mystery was solved , it works fine.

I am more of a fan of Linksys (as its part of Cisco) but they are much more expensive.

I have a home networking system and use Netgear. We have a total of 6 computers that are online at once in a 3000 sq ft home. I hear that Linksys is better, but it cost more than my netgear. I am happy with Netgear.

I love my D-link.

I have never once had to reboot it, except for setting changes and I have had it for months. I have my xbox360, pc, laptop (wireless), wii (wireless), t-mobile @ home, and 2 directv HR21-700 boxes networked to it without a hitch

p/s forgot to add that the range is amazin, and ipod touch connects all the way out to street lol
