Post - Word 2007

I read elsewhere that Word 2007 has a feature that remembers which "tools" you use and helps you by keeping them active so you don't have to look for them in the menus.

I was wondering if this version runs on XP and if anyone here has tried it?

Not sure if they do have this feature, this is the first time I have heard someone mentioned about the memory feature.

There is a way to test drive Microsoft Word 2007 on a browser, you might want to give it a go. Or just download a trial then run on your PC.

I don't know about any memory, but a big feature of 2007 is that most of the tools and options are kept as buttons and tabs, doing away with most menus entirely.

I run it on XP just fine, and rather like it. Took me a week to get my bearings, but now I like it better. The fact that it keeps track of word count WHILE I type is great, hated having to click to find out in 2003.

I installed Office 2007 a few months ago now, I'm running XP too. Once you get used to it, the new interface is very nice to use and the new addons and features make it the best improvement in an Office package for quite a while.

Well worth the money, especially if your current version of office is older than Office XP.

I haven't seen any remembering tool, but the organization of the tools has improved, and atleast now you can show off your office 2007 due to the improved design, but i do wish they had continued with .doc file system, because now I have to keep saving my files in compatibility mode due when i want to use public computers, which is annoying (considering you can't set .doc extension to be the default).

Not really. You need to remember to save it in the .doc (compatability) format though. It disables some unique 07 features, but if you need it, it's there.

Yes, they still have it, but like said, you must remember to save it in .doc format. What i do not understand is why they couldn't use the same file type for the new features they have. Was it really necessary for a new file type?

Hmm. I guess so, seeing as they did it. Or else they just wanted an excuse to charge you more.

Well, it was kinda necessary to have a new file type. Otherwise, people would always open 07 docs in 03 with no way of telling, and be told constantly that 'Certain features and formatting were removed.' Or worse, just crash.

I'm ok with it, I appreciate the fact that I would rather have new features on the docs that I and I alone will open, and can always convert for those that need it.
